Spent Shell Casings by JRobin Whitley
The proper procedure for presenting spent shell casings to the PNOK is as follows … Three spent shell casings, one from each of the three volleys, should be retrieved from the ground after the casings have cooled. Usually, the Rifle Squad Detail Leader retrieves the shells while those in attendance are focusing their attention on the Funeral Flag presentation to the PNOK. The three casings are then presented separately to the PNOK after the ceremony has concluded, but before the PNOK leaves the cemetery. The casings can be presented “loose” or they can be placed into a display box. The remaining shell casings can be presented separately to the PNOK so that he/she can distribute them to family or friends. The three spent shell casings represent Duty, Honor, Country.

safe & secure by Rosemary Scott
Featured in War Group December 2008 I’ve learned a few things today….. / 1st : a photographer of my skill level finds it really hard to shoot a Blackhawk Helicopter when it’s travelling around 200 kilometres an hour…. / 2nd : it’s even harder when you happen to be in that helicopter with the wind blowing so hard that most of what you see in your viewfinder is through tears…. / 3rd : add to that the fact that we’ve just had two glorious overcast days, but the day of my flight just happens to be one of the hottest & sunniest in a long time….. my flight was at 1pm….. bugger! Of around 100 shots for the day I like this one…... that’s about all I’m happy with. The very best shots of the day were of the aircrew as they sauntered from the aircraft after another successful mission…. but I’m not allowed to show you those shots for security reasons… Is there no God!!!! So here is the Loadmaster of my flight. Tasked with keeping me safe & secure for the duration of my flight. / More importantly the whole crew are tasked with keeping our nation safe & secure day & night, 365 days of the year. / Thank you to all of you. I for one am very appreciative of all your hard work.

Casualty Report by Andy Mueller IPA
Union Colonel Johnson looks down to the Valley below, as his troops secure the perimeter for the ensuing night. The last days’ battles resulted in significant casualties on both sides. Col. Johnson settles down at his field desk to write the following report: / / “Headquarters Couch’s Division,”Williamsburg, Va., May 8, 1862. “Sir, I have the honor to report that at 1 o’clock P.M., of May 5, the head of my Division, consisting of Peck’s Brigade only, arrived on the ground in rear of the center of our line of battle, and was by direction of General Keyes, posted by me supporting him, he being fiercely engaged. Peck soon moved forward, and for an hour and a half was opposed by nearly the whole of the enemy’s disposable force in front, covered the assaults of their infantry and cavalry, / but the determined courage of this Fort Magruder, distant 400 to 600 yards, with its plunging fire of shells and grape gallant officer and the steadiness of his brigade foiled all attempts to drive him from the ground. “The left of the 55th New York was twice forced back, but the 93rd Pennsylvania and the 72nd New York Volunteers, coming up furiously, recovered the space lost. *There was very little faltering, and I beg to say to the General / commanding that I want no higher earthly honor than to be the Commander of the First Division of this Corp. *The list of casualties were: Peck’s Brigade, killed, 18; wounded, 81; missing, 26. Deven’s Brigade, 1 killed and 2 wounded. Artillery detachment, 1 wounded. Total loss, 19 killed, / 84 wounded and 26 missing. Image created via layering 3 images total.

Military Teamwork by Sarah Grace
This was part of a ground team assault demonstration at the October airshow at MCAS Mirimar. Theses copters came in all at the same time, dropped their men off and took off all at the same time. Love the coordination and teamwork. These guy really knew what they were doing. I’m glad to have them guarding my back. =) And I also love the way this looks cropped and edited. =)

Ransom Clark by LocustFurnace
Dade Battlefield Society literature states that the Dec. 28, 1835, skirmish marked the start of the seven-year Second Seminole War and introduced the U.S. Army to jungle warfare. Ransom Clark was stationed at Fort Morgan. He was just 23 years old when he survived the horror of Dade Battle. He was was shot 5 times, in the pelvis, shoulder and lung and hobbled 50 miles, crossing 4 rivers in three days back to Fort Brooke. Over 100 soldiers were massacred while only Ransom survived. And he died 5 years later at the age of 28 from wounds suffered there. Photographed in Griegsville, New York (January 5th 2009) / Nikon D80 ~ 18-135mm ~ ISO320

THE BLUE ANGLES by SMOKEYDOGSOCKS
BEFORE “THE BLUE ANGLES” CHANGED JETS, THEY FLEW IN THE A-6 SKYRAIDER BACK IN 1981. NOW OF COURSE, THEY FLY THE FA-18 HORNET, WHICH IS A MUCH MORE MANUEVERABLE JET. THIS PHOTO ALONG WITH SEVERAL OTHERS ARE JUST A FEW OF THE AIR SHOW SHOTS THAT I HAVE SCANNED TO CONVERT INTO DIGITAL. I HAVE SO MANY MORE TO SCAN THAT IT IS GOING TO TAKE ME SOME TIME TO ACHIEVE MY FINAL GOAL. ALL FILM PHOTOS DIGITIZED AND LOADED ONTO MY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. I HAVE ANOTHER SHOT OF THIS YEAR BLUE ANGLES THAT I TOOK BACK TO TRAVIS AFB NORTHERN CALIFORNIA IN 1983 AND HAD THE PILOTS OF THAT YEAR SIGN THE SHOT. I GOT ALL SIX PILOTS IN THE DIAMOND SHOT, BUT THEY WERE DIFFERENT PILOTS THAN THAT OF 1981. THEY ALL ASKED ME THE SAME QUESTION, “WHERE’D YOU GET THIS SHOT FROM”. I HAD TO TELL THE TRUTH, I TOOK IT, BACK IN 1981. I GUESS THEY ALL THOUGHT IT WAS A WORTHY IMAGE OR THEY WOULDN’T HAVE PUT THEIR NAMES ON IT.
