Black Widow by Melanie Dooley
The birds started to screech one evening. / No rhyme or reason to it. / The wind picked up, trees bending in homage. The villagers shuttered their windows and looked to their rosaries. / Fires were poked and stoked. / Candles were lit, casting flickery shadows in small spaces. She walked swiftly, wrapped up well against the cold, keeping close to the walls. It was done, and he was gone. Good riddance to him.

I had my second solo, first at the Historic Scarab Club in the heart of the art district in Downtown Detroit and one of my pieces called “Mr. Migraine” made it into the 95th annual Gold Medal Exhibition which was the month after. I phoned to ask when I should pick up the piece just after the exhibition closed and the Gallery Director informed me that Mr. Migraine had been selected with others from the Gold Medal Exhibition to go on tour with the Detroit Athletic Club, know as the DAC. For more information about the club visit there website. Truly an honor to have some/one of my pieces in such historic places. The DAC had a near 300 year history and the Scarab Club last year celebrated it’s 100th. It truly is an honor to be recognized as an artist by such institutions. I would NOT have been if it were not for my dedicated friends here on RB providing constant feedback and Bill Murcko a well known and wonderful portrait artist who introduced me to the Scarab Club a few years ago. His advise and intriguing conversation continue to inspire and nurture my artistic abilities. Thank you Bill!

Group guidelines
(1) Please only post works and journals directly relating to vampires.
(2) If the moderators are not able to identify some vampire aspect to a posted work, your work will be removed (generic dark or gothic have their own groups).
(3) Help the moderators – if you think your work may be obscure, explain your vampire related inspiration in the description. If there isn’t any, don’t add it to the vampire group.
(4) Please don’t add add more than three pieces per day.
(5) If your work is removed, you might not receive any explanation. But if you want to ask for one, bubblemail a moderator. Be prepared to answer the question ‘how does the removed work relate to vampires?’
