  • A Little Bed of Roses by Carolyn Staut

Yesterday, 12.30.08 I took my grandson on a little trip to our local botanical gardens. He is a budding photographer with a great eye. So good is his eye that he spotted this little frog inside of a rose. I surely would have missed it if not for his great eyesight and attention to details around him. We were delighted with roses of every shape and color blooming in December. It was a lovely trip and I have Zach to thank for spotting this little fellow in his bed of roses. Texas Ranger Statue at the Texas State Capitol grounds (Austin, Texas). The monument was erected in 1907, by surviving comrades. A plaque on the side reads: LAST ORDER / Headquarters Calvary Corps. / April 24, 1865 GALLANT COMRADES / You have fought your fight. Your task is done. During four years of struggle for liberty you have exhibited courage, fortitude and devotion. You are the victors of more than 200 sternly contested fields. You have participated in more than 1000 conflicts of arms. You are heroes, veterans, patriots. The bones of your comrades mark the battlefields of Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. You have done all that human exertions could accomplish. In bidding you adieu I desire to tender my thanks for gallantry in battle. Your fortitude under suffering, and the devotion at all times to the holy cause you have done so much to maintain. I desire also to express my gratitude for your kind feeling you have seen fit to extend to myself and to invoke upon you the blessings of our Heavenly Father in the Cause of Freedom: / Comrades in Arms, I bid you farewell. Joseph Wheeler / Leut – Gen. Commanding Calvary Corps. / Army of Tennessee

  • "Screen Door" by Bradley Shawn Rabon

This is one of my favorite rustic shots. I took this at an old disused petrol station in East Texas. The building itself dates back almost a hundred years. The lighting was perfect on the porch and door. I took a number of shots, but this was my favorite by far.

  • West Texas by meagain625

An exceptionally golden sunset had me stepping outside to capture the golden hue that washed over the landscape behind a house we are having remodeled. A truly golden moment…

  • My Perspective by sharont

I live in the Hill Country of South Texas (San Antonio area) and love the old Cypress Trees along the rivers and streams. We have very little color here this year because of the drought. However, the cypress always give theri color because of the water (although it is low). I stood under the big old trees and shot from the base up. The sun shining thorugh reminds of of Christ’s light in our lives. As children of God we need to let our light shine through to others. It will make a difference in the way others view Christ thorugh us. This photo would not be as beautiful without the sunshine.

  • Guadalupe River Crossing - Fall by sharont

The fall foillage is sparce in the Hill Country of Texas due to lack of rain. However, the little water in the Guadalupe is enough to make these Cyprus trees go full color. This was taken with a canon PS D 870 IS on auto setting. These magnificient Cypress trees grow along the bank of the Guadalupe River in a little rural Texas town called Waring. Crossing a narrow bridge one has to park and walk across the bridge to get a photo. God stood on this bridge with his palet of paint and waved his hand toward the sky and painted these giants. Because of the drought this was the only color for miles along this rural road.

About This Group

Welcome to the BIG State of Texas! The Lone Star State is the second largest State (Alaska is the largest) in the United States. The goal of the Texas Group is to showcase all of the wonderful beauty, long history, and diverse culture that Texas has to offer, but also all of the great Texas artists.

This group is primarily for those who live in Texas, but is open to anyone who would like to share their work while visiting Texas. All photography must have been shot in Texas, with the location listed in the description, and all art must have a Texas theme. Think of it this way; if someone had never been to Texas before, the work you submit should give them a visual image of Texas life or landscape. Do you have a tall Texas tale? Send us your best Texas writing also!

Texas is BIG and Texans are proud, so let’s show the world that EVERYTHING really IS…BIGGER in Texas!

Enjoy!

Charles
