  • "Auld Reekie" by Chris Clark

Edinburgh Skyline in the direction of Calton Hill, Arthur Seat & Salisbury Cragg. Through the Frozen mist Edinburgh arose. Taken today 20 December 2007 / Time: 0848hrs / Temperature -2 degrees C Camera; Canon EOS30D / Lens: Canon 17-85mm IS / Focal Length : 75mm / Tv: f16 / Av: 1/320 / ISO: 100 PS: Levels, Dodging, Burning, Unsharp 1 1.9 97, close pano crop to 46 inches x 10 inches. Edinburgh has long been associated with smoke, whisky and royalty. It is reported that in 1777 there were no fewer than 400 illicit distilleries in Edinburgh. These easily went undetected in the thick smoke that filled Edinburgh. The smoke was such an issue in Edinburgh that the capital affectionately became known as “Auld Reekie”. In more modern times Edinburgh has lost its reputation as being the smoky capital of Scotland.

This is the same picture as Liverpool albert Dock, just thought I would try in black and white! /

  • Perth Cityscape Panoramic by Sandra Chung

Taken from across the Swan River, high up in Kings’ Park. The scudding clouds caused light metering to keep changing almost every nano-second. Because of this, the color hue didn’t match in all three pictures that I had deliberately taken to make a panoramic scene So, I desaturated all three images, and tweaked the contrast/brightness until they all matched, and this was the result. Tripod mounted Lumix DMC-FZ30 Full 12x Zoom / Focal Length 7mm / Exp 1/400 sec. at F/4.5 / ISO-100

  • Shinjuku I by Michael Fester

    Shinjuku, Tokyo , September 2007.

  • Spot the cows by tomg

The CowParade was held in Edinburgh, Scotland during 2006. There were over 100 life-size decorated fibreglass cows, situated in the streets and parks of Edinburgh. After the event was over, the sale of 64 cows at the Gala Auction at Prestonfield Stables, Edinburgh, raised £253,000 for the charities OneCity Trust and Vetaid. These cows are now dispersed around Edinburgh and beyond. In this shot, taken from Calton Hill, if you select the Larger View, you may be able to spot two of the cows on the garden roof of the new Edinburgh Council offices in Market Street. Three bracketed JPGs converted to HDR in Photomatix. BEST VIEWED LARGER Related shots can be found at: Edinburgh and Lowland Scotland or you can look at all my HDR shots.

  • Baltimore's Inner Harbor by mrehere

Image taken September 9, 2006. Location is the Inner Harbor area of Baltimore, Maryland. The focus of the image is intended to be the converging lines of the landscape, moreso than the water of the harbor itself. It merges the hard lines of the city with the soft subjects of water and people.
