She was originally named Lydia Liliu Loloku Walania Wewehi Kamaka’eha, Lydia Liliuokalani Paki, and also known as Lydia Kamakaʻeha Paki, with the chosen royal name of Liliʻuokalani. Queen Liliʻuokalani was an accomplished author and songwriter. Her book, Hawaiʻi’s Story by Hawaiʻi’s Queen, gave her view of the history of her country and her overthrow and therefore became the first Native Hawaiian female author. Liliʻuokalani was known for her musical talent. Lili’u is said to have played guitar, piano, organ, ‘ukulele and zither. She also sang alto, performing Hawaiian and English sacred and secular music. She would find herself in music. In her memoirs she wrote: “to compose was as natural to me as to breathe. This gift remains a source of the greatest consolation.” She wrote over 165 songs and chants. Some of her best-known musical compositions include the song, “Aloha ʻOe”, “The Queen’s Jubilee”, “He Mele Lahui Hawai’i”, and “Ku’u Pua I Paoakalani” ~ Source: Wikipedia !!

  • Catching The Last Light
    by Stevie Millgate

    US$5.32–US$121.60

This image was made along Morecambe’s promanade one evening, just before sunset. Im amazed to see so many variations of light over the bay, every night is different. Ive found taking pictures along the bay in any weather can give good results, with grey and over cast pervect for black and white. I love my work to be saturated with colour. This evening, i found that colour :) Thanks for taking the time to look. Stevie

  • A fascinating and beautiful beach on the west coast of Norway. These huge boulders roll in and out when the powerful North Seas waves hit them. It makes an eerie and almost frightening sound.

  • Castlerigg Stone Circle.
    by TallGuy

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Ok.. it’s only part of the stone circle.. to be quite honest I’m pleased to have this photo. For me it seemed to be one of those days, nothing seemed right photowise. It was another enjoyable meet with Robert Hardy, I’m guessing and hoping his shots turned out better than mine :-) The Extract below was taken from Wikipedia… Wilkipedia “The stones are of a local metamorphic slate, set in a flattened circle, measuring 32.6m (107ft) at its widest and 29.5m (97ft) at its narrowest. The heaviest stone has been estimated to weigh around 16 tons and the tallest stone measures approximately 2.3m high. There is a 3.3m wide gap in its northern edge, which may have been an entrance. Within the circle, abutting its eastern quadrant, is a roughly rectangular setting of a further 10 stones. The circle was probably constructed around 3200 BC (Late Neolithic/Early Bronze-Age), making it one of the earliest stone circles in Britain and possibly Europe, too. It is important to archaeoastronomers who have noted that the sunrise during the Autumn equinox appears over the top of Threlkeld Knott, a hill 3.5km to the east. Some stones in the circle have been aligned with the midwinter sunrise and various lunar positions.” MY OLD STANDING STONES SET

  • Mountain Sunset
    by Gary L. Suddath

    US$5.32–US$121.60

Taking a few minutes before my “Days End”. The colors are much cooler showing why these are known as the lower Blue Ridge Mountains. The foggy mist is why these particular mountains became known as the Smokys. So often in making sunset/sunrise shots photographers shoot one or two shots and move on. This time of day is one of rapidly changing tones. Some of the most dramatic shots can be made after most have left or got there. When the clouds are illuminated by the sun after/before it has pasted the horizon. Those photographers willing to slow down an spend some time will be the ones fully enjoying this time of day when the warm/cool colors met, mingle, and drift apart. As you can see between the 2 shots 2 minutes make a dramatic difference. Clingmans Dome Area Great Smoky Mountain NP

Luckily repairs were minor. Replacement of top lcd and top plate. Sigma 10-20mm came out unscathed. Not bad consittering the imapct which had me beliving it was all done for. Both brands are tough!

  • Derby Jetty
    by chriso

    US$4.66–US$106.40

The colours of the sunset here are tremendous. It is a pleasure to watch the changing colours long after the sun sets, the lights come on and all the other sunset watchers leave (before the best bit!!!). This is the second night we spent in Derby. I have also uploaded the shot from the first night but can’t decide which I prefer. The colours were different on the two nights due to fire in the area.

  • Lyme Regis Sunset
    by A90Six

    US$4.19–US$95.76

A view across the front at Lyme Regis from beneath the Millennium Clock. Lyme Regis is a coastal town in West Dorset, England and forms part of the Jurassic Coast. The town lies in Lyme Bay, on the English Channel coast at the Dorset-Devon border. It is nicknamed “The Pearl of Dorset”. In the 13th century it developed into one of the major British ports. The town was home to Admiral Sir George Somers, its one time mayor and parliamentarian, who founded the Somers Isles, better known as Bermuda. Lyme Regis is twinned with St. George’s, in that Atlantic archipelago. Lyme is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. The Royal Charter was granted by King Edward I in 1284, with the addition of ‘Regis’ to the town’s name. This charter was confirmed by Elizabeth I in 1591.
