Sales of this Design? – 2 sales so far :) / Thoughts become Things is a mixed media production on thick watercolour paper. / The painting emphasises the idea that ‘thoughts become things’....here is a creative little girl geting stuck into making all sorts of things while relaxing in the bath (where she gets inspiration)....Just like me, when the inspiration comes it doesn’t matter where you are or what you’re doing, you just begin the creative process…..be it in the bathtub, shower, sitting on the loo…..that’s artists for you :D newspaper sealed with wax, fabric, thread, stitching, little typewritten texts pasted on, buttons, wool, string, golden thread, buttons, feathers, felt, you name it, it’s in this painting….

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 / For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: / a time to be born, and a time to die; / a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; / a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; / a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; / a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; / a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; / a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; / a time for war, and a time for peace.

“Filled with sand and stitched with twine and hair The Clones emotions were slow to surface. His button eyes gave little away. His kindness disguised by the harsh metal teeth of his zip-like mouth. The stained and torn rags of their skin had been bleached …...she gently unpicked a strand of hair and sewed all that lay within into the very centre of The Clone. The desert sand gave the clones a bovine like calmness that some people found unerving.” Written words from around the canvas. Canvas was slashed and stitched. Zip works. (some influence from Brett Whiteleys work)

Just laying on the floor in the old farm house was this beautiful old Singer sewing machine, pretty much all intact, even still had its foot pedal control and a plug!, i had to stand it up to take a couple of shots, if i wasnt such an honest person i could quite easily have taken this home and restored it!

Although the background (or “holder”) of this is canvas, the surface is entirely covered in papers and fabrics. Most of this is craft papers, tissue paper, denim, silk, etc. On top of the collage I painted with acrylic in washes. The branch is sewn on. The 3 leaves are drawings on Reeves BFK (Best all round paper EVER! I use it for everything.) in oil pastel. Their backgrounds are watercolor and acrylic and each is stitched onto the canvas. As for the meaning, the title sums that up. :)

This is a man who loves his work and his life.. every day for him is a new way to look at his cloth and his thread and his ways that he puts it all together.. He is never without looking at each day with ‘beginners mind’.. that way every thing is like the first time. /
