I always felt a special love for seahorses (Hippocampus). I was really getting sad while finishing this piece of art … stupid humans, destroying everything and trying to get the last specimens before complete extinction.

(if you would like a variation of this design eg. smaller, cloned effect, different colour; then let me know)

The picts were an ancient Scottish people who created the most wonderful art and this drawing is inspired by them. A seahorse pairs for life I believe and I wanted to show them intertwined as one.

It keeps eternal whisperings around / Desolate shores, and with its mighty swell / Gluts twice ten thousand caverns, till the spell / Of Hecate leaves them their old shadowy sound. / Often ‘tis in such gentle temper found, / That scarcely will the very smallest shell / Be moved for days from whence it sometime fell, / When last the winds of heaven were unbound. / Oh ye! who have your eye-balls vexed and tired, / Feast them upon the wideness of the Sea; / Oh ye! whose ears are dinned with uproar rude, / Or fed too much with cloying melody, / Sit ye near some old cavern’s mouth, and brood / Until ye start, as if the sea-nymphs choired! Sonnet on the Sea / by John Keats (1795 – 1821) Painting in mixed media – 102cm x 42 cm 17th December 2008

In my last 5 or 6 drawings, I have noticed a serious progression of swirls and circles. Pretty much every line I draw, somehow ends up in a swirl or a circle. Even the lines that are somewhat straight…eventually go round in the end. Every time I start a new drawing, I try and expand on what I did in the one before, and with this piece I wanted to push the swirls and circles as far as they could go. What could be swirlier than an octopus?

Mythical seahorse. / 14×18 scratchboard

A series of creepy creatures….......... Too colorful for most and the face forward portraits are the least appealing…..not many people want to hang these because it always feels as if you are being watched ;) I have sold some of these But I’m not hanging any of them myself, in fact my home decorating style is in complete contrast to what I do. It would be a lot cheaper if I would just produce the type of art I typically buy but I seldom feel inspired to do so LOL. Colored pencil on thick smooth art paper 11×14 / & black sharpie. I might have to retake this…........I’m not sure I like the lighting
