  ___ / FIRST BIT OF NEWS / ___ I sold two tees Yay (one last night and one this morning!!!!!) Two Latest Designs sold (with many thanx) to beautiful fellow bubblebees Firstly, last night some time Liesl Yvette Wilson an aussie artist living in London who does gorgeous children’s illustrations (please pay her a visit !!) purchased my latest Kokeshi Doll Autumn TShirt: ...and NEXTLY, SalsBells69 a fellow bubblebee and wonderful photographer from Australia, purchased my other latest tee design Fantasy Island Retro TShirt: I have been really down lately, and these two sales have boosted my spirits enormously, a very big thank you to my two special buyers Leisl and Sal :) thanx guys! _________ NEX BIT OF NEWS * ( / i see you’re still here, thanx so much for hangin’ round for next bit) / ________ Hi fellow bubblebees, I joined red bubble community on or around about the 7th February 2008 (near on 10 weeks ago) i think :) i never know what today’s date is even tho it’s apparently right here on my computer screen…i am really a computer illiterate in many many ways (sh don’t tell anyone that lol) – my friend frozenfa knows this only too well :) Just me with a special update…for a while now I’ve ummed and ahhhed as to whether to share or not about sales and figures…when i first started bubbling i was so excited i couldn’t help but share good news…but as time’s gone by, I’ve noticed the ups and downs emotionally that we all go through over the good and bad times. I think all of us struggle terribly when no-one’s buying our work, and I’ve had an immense struggle with it myself. When no-one’s buying you think, okay, it’s all over bar the shout, i’m finished, i’m washed up, i wanna get out of this cruel game which is a roller coaster ride to say the least I’ve watched friends many times feel despairing, and I know that feeling so well. So sometimes sharing about sales and views can crush someone else’s spirit, or it can spur them on to become more and more determined to win the big prize :) I feel seeing someone else’s success does both these things to me. I’m not sure how the rest of you are going with your sales and progress, i’m told some even make close to a living from selling their work here…...I’m far from that goal ….. but we must continue to encourage one another all the more if some are feeling low and flailing, there are so many wonderful artists here, and i see they have no comments on their work, or just one and i wonder why is that? I have been so encouraged by this wonderful community and the warm sentiments fill my heart with joy and put a spring in my step, i can assure you all of that :) and I wanted to say thank you to everyone for being like, my extended family of brothers and sisters :) Anyway, I’ve been keeping quiet about sales and views for a while…..i wonder whether if you’re doing well..people will drop you off their watchlist….or if you’re doing not so well, people let you go anyway, i really don’t know…. But i try to be honest about who i am, so i’ve decided to lay it on the table today….and here are my stats :) Ten Weeks on Red Bubble art views 25,045 / clothing views 7,350 card sales 25 / tshirt sales 12 / _print sales _ 1 total sales* 38 translated $$$’s $163.48 ________ FINALE _ (if you’re still awake and stuck with me til this / point, i must applaud and congratulate and send you / big hugs and thanx :)_ ________ I’ve been very busy lately, as i was commissioned by some folks in United States to create some designs for a business proposal…don’t think i can say much more than that…but stay tuned as it could turn into something big….and that would be very cool :) thanks for listening to my guff everyone, love yas all :) big hugs from Karin xo

  / Midnight Blues by Karin Taylor Well howdy my bubbly friends, and wouldya believe i got me favourite piece of art featured on the HOMEPAGE tonight!! omi!!! omeeee!!! omi!!!! You see, i was just havin’ a little whinge about how i never get featured no more….. / and the one i was thinkin’ deserved a little featuring…just happens to pop up on / the homepage….wo!! I should try whingin’ a little more often (nah, my family disagrees!!!!!) lol Midnight Blues is from a painting i did recently on Arches Aquarelle Paper 56×76cm, a mixed media production, utilising inks, pastels, acrylics, charcoals, found objects such as string and fabric….and the most beautiful gold paint which gives the guitar it’s lustre Midnight Blues is from the Inspired Series by Karin Taylor, during the painting of this, i was strongly influenced by my favourite Australian artist, Brett Whitely, longing to capture something of the wonderful curves he created in his works. It has a dark and sombre feeling, much like how i was feeling at the time i created her. I used to laugh and carry on that my thoughts and my moods could ever be conveyed through a painting, and it was just silly that people reckoned they did so, but just look at me now….i cannot seem to prevent it happening these days!! lol…that’ll teach me to scoff :)

  Today i got two more surprises!!! Firstly my new dear sweet bubble friend udonchow purchased my Hidden Treasure card from my ! and I thank you so much udonchow, i hope you will really like it very much! Secondly a dear old friend i used to play with when i was a young girl has reappeared into my life again through Facebook, her name is Priscilla (or Pris for short) and we both had fathers in the Police….we used to dance ourselves silly to Abba….lol….well, today Pris purchased Little Green Teapot long sleeved tee from my ....and i am really tickled pink!!!!   I was really honoured to learn that one of my paintings has been featured in the Video Montage Group by Muscular Teeth / / Hidden Treasure / There’s this really wonderful friend of mine you can check out on the bub called MT or Muscular Teeth and it is MT who moderates the Video Montage Group you may have seen his spider profile around and about…he now sports a cute red dot beside his name, due to his outstanding efforts in tirelessly promoting Red Bubble In his own words MuscularTeeth is a multi-packaged entity; film, music, photography and drawn artwork. He works night and day using his creativity to blend art, rhythm, music and themes with his special techniques, i can only imagine the work that must go into these video montages….the more i see, the more i ‘get it’.....i can see he has a great vision, and he’s blending so many artforms together, it’s a really unique idea….others do similar things, but MT’s is very unique and requires a very specific vision….only MT has :) Here is some of Muscular Teeth’s technology set up he uses to create his stuff for us with So folks, the new theme is : MONSTERS, FANTASY, FOLKLORE, FAERYTALE…..so Muscular Teeth will be looking for images such as these for his next Video Montage, which he puts onto UTube, giving much publicity to Red Bubble and his fellow artistes….a win-win situation Each artist who is a member of red bubble and the Video Montage Group submits one piece, and Muscular works on a themed piece of music, clever, clever, clever…....which suits the theme and the art…..brilliant huh!   The years have numbered one score and five, almost to the day, since I fled Sydney’s darkened alleyways cloaked and choked in the inarticulate wog girl shame of who I was. I journeyed by mail train, longing to be engulfed in the tropical steam trailing in tattered drifts outside my window, as I lay through the long night, hungry and huddled around a ‘hot box’ for meagre warmth. My creaking polished ‘dog box’ mausoleum lulled me, carrying me through unfamiliar terrain as I awaited my rebirth into new adventure. Hording my secret desire to begin again, to start afresh, to write a script of my own choosing. / It was within the leafy canopy of a Toowong ‘Queenslander’ that I became enchanted with views of the rambling graveyard. And it was here that my succubus – ‘that which lies below,’ – stole seductively into my life on bat wings of heroin desire. The ethereal allure of her hypnagogic nocturnal visitations were persuasive. Her supernatural beauty caressed me, separating me gently from my slumbering body with a new lover’s sighing promises. / Even after returning to Sydney, some time later, I was blind with lust for her. She became my soul’s desire in every waking and dreaming moment. I had fallen prey to her hypnotic charms. I lay entranced; my free will had tethered itself to my dreams of her. My energy drained freely. Her kisses sucked in my spirit with each breath that she took from me. I knew my soul was being stolen. Still, though, I felt I could choose. / When I came near to that point of utter exhaustion, the prelude to final extinguishment, I vacillated. Should I willingly offer up my last essence of self to her or clutch my remains in my own hands, and thus leave the fetid comfort of her embrace? / Resolute at last, determined to feel and countenance my pain again, I stand and face my jilted lover. But she intercepts my utterances and I swoon beneath her lips and the feel of her skin erotically insinuated against my own. I feel my resolve dissipating, yet cling, wondering why. / She anticipates my resistance and thrusts me to the bed. Why am I resisting? I have forgotten. I only know I must… must… Must I? Must what? But before my thoughts can clarify she has become a crushing, claustrophobic pressure on my chest. I feel I am suffocating. Fearfully I look in my lover’s eyes. Her unearthly beauty has metamorphosed. Grown huge and angry. Commanding and compelling. / I turn my head when her lips seek my failing breath, but I can resist no longer. As she looms above me, shapeshifting grotesquely from Succubus to Incubus, I am only dully aware of the demon’s prick, impregnating me with the seed of this shapeshifter’s viral load. / And as the Incubus courses through my blood, I now know my sexual deviancy has been a mortal sin against god. That I am deserving of my fate. Eternally damned. I have not found escape from my entrapment at all, at all. Now she will haunt me perpetually to death’s door. / For years I kept my shame deeply buried within the basement floor. The twisted key to the cellar door hung heavily at my throat. And thus I managed to keep her venomous touch at arms length still, with herbal sprigs and decoctions, holy water and full moon incantations. Until that fateful day I felt in my body that she had broken loose; she was no longer held at bay, and ascended emblazoned in fury. / My liver flailed and howled in impotence at her assault; her scarification, her withering. My daily doses of tinctures and glycetracts no longer warded off her poisonous cirrhosis. My succubus had once again shapeshifted and in a measured scrambling ascent from her sepulchre in the depths, metamorphosed yet again into the Incubus; into ‘that which lies above’ and must be countenanced. The virus, no longer slumbering, torrented relentlessly through my veins, caustically wreaking havoc in every organ, tissue and bones’ marrow. My jaundiced viral load now transfigured effortlessly, evading all my natural defences. Beguiled no longer, I became increasingly concerned. / The physicians, who previously had held out little hope for my condition, now offered me salvation in the form of a drastic new healing. But, and here was my inducement, it came with the lure of a cure. The odds of success were fifty/fifty, the treatments highly noxious and of one full year’s duration. For half the patients the results were everlasting! Could it be that my penance may be payed in full, at last? My philandering past put behind me? Ah, to be unleashed bfrom the haunting of hepatic shadows of guilt and shame: to grasp my birthright’s claim to health and to have a life lived fully. / / Donning my cape, one rain slicked afternoon, hat pulled low over my eyes, my silent feet padded the mortared steps of Lismore’s merchant district. Stealthily I slid between wooden doors and overstuffed chairs into a round-tabled boardroom under phosphorescent chandeliers. / Other furtive hepers slipped through the doors in ones and twos. All of us wore the shame of our seduction, our flirtations with our Succubi, emblazoned defiantly across our breasts, their shadows looming at our backs. And as our fears were shared; peeling away in the garnered courage of tales retold, the spectres of our demons were dispelled. It was only then that I knew I possessed the courageousness to see this through. Thus in the company of this motley crew, my guard has slipped, my shame is borne, in camaraderie and optimism my journey towards redemption has begun. ©

  Tonight I headed down to the opening of the Contemporary Art Society of Victoria’s “Collectors’ Exhibition” opening at Steps Gallery in Carlton. I didn’t know anyone else who had work included in the show, and being a Sunday night I didn’t hold too much hope of friends turning out, though I knew Chris had mentioned coming along. Shortly after my arrival I came across him and we nattered and checked out the art. On getting to my work I found some folk closely eyeing both images and the page dedicated to me in the catalogue (as below). Chris mentioned they’d been doing that for a while. Of course I was pleased, but ever the “don’t count your chickens” girl, I moved back around the exhibition and we perused other work, discussed other photographic stuffs, sampled the finger food and grabbed another glass of red. I only noticed three photographs in the whole exhibition, and two of those were my own. After conversation in the foyer, we returned to the show and out of curiosity I went to check my work, only to find a lovely red spot by Domestic Goddess Although this isn’t my first print sold, it is my first print sold in a gallery show, and on the opening night, no less, so I am quite chuffed. Here’s hoping that my other print will sell too :D
