How on earth this beach came by it’s name I honestly don’t know. Perhaps it CAN get rough. Perhaps it WAS rough the day it was discovered and named! Being on the Southern Ocean and exposed to the strong swells that roll in from the Antarctic that is a likely scenario but we have been here 3 or 4 times and on each occasion “Peaceful Bay” would have been a far more appropriate name! The location is on the shores of Cape Le Grande National Park some 50 kms east of Esperance in the far south east of Western Australia, some 750 kms by road from Perth. I have to say that being here is nothing short of idyllic! Peter

Inverness Beach, Nova Scotia on Cape Breton Island. Very few people on this beach in the morning. A few during the day and at sunset. My favorite place.

I saw this fantastic tree right near the tip of Cape York (the nothern most point of the Australian mainland). It had a unique character all of its own as it stood defiantly out on the tidal sandflat. A rough day on the beach in Byron Bay does not deter the keen surfers from getting a peice of the action. Notice the rays of sunlight coming through the clouds down towards the people entering the surf.
