Lion Fish

The beautiful spines hide a deadly secret – they’re highly venomous (though not to humans) and are used as a defensive weapon. The general idea being that if they’re gulped up (as is often the case), the spines spread out and inject poison into the predator.

It’s beautiful Vikram (the image and the fish), great capture! The fins almost look like feathers, and the description is really interesting.

Thanks Johanne – this was in a public aquarium and with no flash allowed, this was the only satisfying frame that I got.

Beautiful shot Vikram. Even though you only got one good shot, it’s a marvelous one!
