North Curl Curl Rock Pool

North Curl Curl Rock Pool

During the summer holidays I badly injured my ankle surfing and the had to be content watching the seemingly endless run of good swells that arrived on the East Coast of Australia.

This sequence was taken on new Years Eve at North Curl Curl. The swell was from the north and the tide extremely high. I hobbled onto a rock had the intention of taking photos of my friends surfing out North Curl Curl Point.

The action was instead around the pool with a crowd of people watching a group of grommets having fun holding onto the pool railing as large foaming waves washed through.

At one point one of thrill seekers walked to the other end of the pool closer to where the swells were smashing into the rocks.

I could not believe my eyes when I saw two of the biggest waves of the day heading in and I focused my lens on his situation.

The sequence in this picture tell the story of the first wave. It was amazing to watch and the crowd cheered wildly once they realised he was still standing.

An infamous quote of Muhammad Ali about the potential rewards for taking a risk has been included as part of this artwork. (this has been taken out)

Scott

PS: The seconds wave was much fiercer and took him out with ease.

Photo Taken using Canon EOS Digital Rebel ETi in sports mode :)

Great sequence Mikoto, but can’t help thinking that the guy in question may have been foolhardy rather than brave. Risk taking is great but this guy was lucky!
