Closing The Gap

Closing The Gap is currently in vogue, used to describe all Government policy, strategies and bureaucratic practices, tying all funding towards “closing the gap” between (what’s left of) Aboriginal people and the Mainstream.

In effect, not only is it an attempt to ensure the so-called equality to health, education, training, and employment opportunities for the Aborigines, it whites-out Aboriginal culture, a different world-view centred in spirituality, as well as their unique heritage and contribution. It is little more than another form of assimilation — the domination of dear ol’ “sMother Culture” pasteurising and homogenising everything in the name of “Our way of life. So get out of the way.”

And b4 you come a-gunnin’ for me, or over-reacting … don’t sweat it… your sides winning by pure numbers and persuasion. Chill-out! I hear it everyday. Don’t worry, be happy, ‘cause all remnants of meaningful differences will be gone soon enough, and yep “we’re all the same, and we can have it all” will be the common ground for more..

”...they may look with eyes wide open but never quite see, and may listen with ears attuned but never quite understand.” ~ taken from a Book, that is an international best seller, read by multi-millions of people, yet understood by few and far between.

    Great work and excellent poster.

Crow you said above; it whites-out Aboriginal culture, a different world-view centred in spirituality, as well as their unique heritage and contribution it can do that ONLY IF PEOPLE ALLOW IT to happen…they can take away rights but cannot take away spirit or inner culture…ignore their stupid illusions and just do it…that is your people’s God given birth right…there is more strength in the spirit of understanding with God given knowledge than in numbers of people who have little understanding of spirituality due to allowing themselves to be led away into all sorts of temptations :)

You’re suppose to be on a “sabbatical” (holyday) sweet Helene. So how come you’re dropping in and out of Rb (here)? Now if I was with you, I reckon I’d kick-start your butt, and show you what holiday means … including “time-out” of all this “stuff”.
Love your loyalty though, and pleased you like the image … not many will, and even less will “get it”. Enjoy the Florida keys, Miami, the jazz, and the rest.

Thank you young lady … I’m surprised this would have rated your attention, let alone a commentary endorsement! But heh, I still can be pleasantly surprised, no matter my cynicism and disappointments.

Thx mate … I try not to get too carried away, but every now ‘n then, I need to get it out in the open.
6 children heh? That’s frigging amazing … and you folks still smile … that’s even more amazing … all the best with you and yours.

Regarding your “it can do that ONLY IF PEOPLE ALLOW IT to happen” ... people have allowed it to happen, don’t argue. as for “but cannot take away spirit or inner culture” this is a rather naive perspective. In Aboriginal_spirituality, culture/soul/spirit/Kurrunpa can be and is able to be dispersed or “killed” off …. and don’;t say that’s “primitive. Let’s leave it at that … “God” has shit-all to do with this particular topic, people and their “sMother Culture” has everything to do with it. Accultaration/enculturation means culture-eaters.

Thank you, again Janet. waddaya mean “show it around”? show it around where? That’s what I thought I was doing here! Not that anyone can “see” and even less can “hear” the dying remnants and receding voice of a Culture fast disappearing. Kinda getting used to be a Lone Stranger, and a +crow+d of one, sorta person.
