Obama
“And to all those watching tonight from beyond our shores, from parliaments and palaces to those who are huddled around radios in the forgotten corners of our world – our stories are singular, but our destiny is shared, and a new dawn of American leadership is at hand. To those who would tear this world down – we will defeat you. To those who seek peace and security – we support you. And to all those who have wondered if America’s beacon still burns as bright – tonight we proved once more that the true strength of our nation comes not from our the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity, and unyielding hope.”

Like a cranial massage.

Thanks for the nutrition and for the clarification above. I was unsure what the photojournalist personally thought. =)
Christopher Ba... in reply to Marcella Chestnut’s comment
As a photojournalist, Photoshoped images are a no-no. So this piece we will call altered experimental art!
Marcella Chestnut
Nice maneuver there… and the photojournalist also tries to let the image speak for itself rather than the artist? But hey, I’ll stop commenting. There’s bound to be lots of folks wanting a turn.
Mohsen Bayramn...
Clever altered experimental artwork! nicely done with the layers and bnw is just fine for your concept!
Christopher Ba... in reply to Mohsen Bayramnejad’s comment
Thanks again Mohsen. I started off with color and it just didn’t flow as well, so I stuck with B&W, glad you like it though!
tdub303
wicked image. as i live in ignorant bliss in japan with no time or language ability to keep up with world news the political side of this is not as powerful as the rest of the image…... i love that wire dangling in the top right to break up the sky. great piece…
Christopher Ba... in reply to tdub303’s comment
Thanks tdub, I tried to make a stand alone piece even if you didn’t know the politics behind it, so your comment is much appreciated.

This is the most important part of that quote:I
”. . .the true strength of our nation comes not from our the might of our arms or the scale of our wealth, but from the enduring power of our ideals: democracy, liberty, opportunity, and unyielding hope.”
It is the most important part, not because it was said by Obama, but because it sums up what our nation means to me. Good work Christopher in your selection from his speech. The image says to me that some may consider these words so much TV hype and political rubbish—to be tossed out the window with the rest of the media piss that collects in our mental buckets. Take the words alone
- without the face -and their meaning is strong. The words with the face—the words are power. This is an enduring achievement in art, Christopher.
Christopher Ba... in reply to Helen Bascom’s comment
Thank you so much Helen. It took quite a bit of work, physically and emotionally to produce this simple piece. There is a lot of hidden meaning behind it as you have uncovered some, some of which I might never even discover. Thanks again for commenting.
CATNIPMEOW
AWESOME…..........uniquely executed…..........and superbly put !!!!!

Well thank you very much Cat. Glad you like it!

Congrats, another feature! I continue to revisit this image…
The wooden debris on either side of the TV reminds me of two paths and/or a crossroads. The depth of field and telephone poles make me think of a journey; perhaps out of the wilderness and over the mountain, toward _civil_ization. The TV also makes me question how much my views are formed by the media. The “wire” thing at the top reminds me that we’re all “plugged in” to some extent, other wise we’d have no information at all. Finally the filter around the corners makes me feel as though I’m standing back, separated, observing…
Christopher Ba... in reply to Marcella Chestnut’s comment
Thanks MC. I had thought a few of those things, but not until after I had uploaded the image onto the computer. At the time I didn’t expect to even do this with the photo. All those observations are totally keen with me!
