228 - POISON FROG - DAVE EDWARDS - WATERCOLOUR - 2008
Don’t get your nature books out to find this guy … you won’t find him :)
I based him on Lehmann’s Poison Frog, but the colours and pattern are mainly mine.

I am partial to mosaic works and this one in watercolour is cute. Love the shadow you have created behind him, sets him in the scene beautifully.

Your poison dart frog looks like he would make a cute and colourful pet for some kids I know. Good painting Dave.
BLYTHART in reply to Brian Towers’s comment
Who mentioned poisoned darts? :)
Brian Towers
Maybe your wee frog isn’t actually the Poisoned dart frog, but there are some named that. There are about 175 poison frog species but only 3 are used for poisoning dart tips to kill monkeys and mothers-in-law. Locals here in the UK used Broon ale on there ‘arras’ for a similar purpose. Fancy you not knowing that!

As you are a former teacher I am sure you have experienced the sensation of having poisoned darts fired at you by your pupils … savage lot in Bedlington :) Maybe that’s how you are such an expert on poison darts :)
Brian Towers
Ah, how astute you are Dave. Many are the times I’ve had to remove a blowpipe dart from my person while I chalked on the blackboard. (I have photos of the scars, but they’re not a pretty sight). There were consolations; it told me that some of my pupils were actually awake, and of their inventiveness in the workshop. The ‘poison’ was made from school dinner gravy – far deadlier than your exquisitly painted frog. But it was the knuckledusters and spiked coshes which tended to be more annoying.

He is a curious beast! If I saw him in the wild I probably wouldn’t have a peck at him though.
BLYTHART in reply to Firedrake’s comment
If you pecked him you’d be poisoned.
Firedrake
That’s what I’d figure…though he does look peckable!
AngelArtiste
I like him.
