Hop Bush

Dodonaea...After Rembert Dodoens, a 16th Century Flemish botanist.

Dodonaea is predominantly an Australian genus which is well distributed in all states. There are 69 species and 60 of them are endemic to Australia. They are commonly called ‘Hop Bushes’ because the colourful fruits resemble the fruits used in brewing.

Whitegum Lookout, Warrumbungle National Park, New South Wales.

Hi Blossom, that’s interesting, i’ve never heard of it before….i went to the warumbungle national park when i was a kid living outwest in Wellington…that was a big excursion for us, camping out in a shearing shed at night…having campfires and stuff.. this reminded me of that time :))) lovely looking plant :)))

There is still a place you can camp called Balor Hut quite near to the Breadknife. There has been a lot of work done to improve the track to the Breadknife – A paved walking track, 8 bridges, and new stairs (lots and lots of stairs) which take you to the Grand High Tops where you get the most amazing view of the Breadknife. It’s been 18 years since we took our 3 lads and did the big 14km return walk (now with all the improvements its only 12.5km return)!!! I will be uploading more pics – stay tuned!!! Thanks Karin!!! x
