Black Rhino
After two days of tracking in searing heat in Luthuli game reserve, South Africa last weekend, we were rewarded with the briefest of sightings – no more than a glimpse -of the precious and extremely endangered black rhino.

Thanks everyone…and yes it’s always special to see a black rhino. We often just have to put with sightings through thick bush or just their dung!!!

Great photo!! When I was in Kenya I was able to get a photo of a Rhino but it kept its distance. In one way that is a good thing, but I did wish it were a bit closer for photo sake. This photo has wonderul lighting and great composition. Excellent!

These beautiful animals are just so extraordinary! Your photograph does the rhino such justice too; the late (or early) light is sublime. I really like having the rhino behind the grasses, just as he is in his natural habitats. A beautiful composition, Sharon. I certainly hope that photographers a hundred years from now will have the opportunity to experience what you have here. Cheers! Chris

sharon what happened to his horn? poachers?
Sharon Bishop
I don’t know what happened to his horn, but if it was poachers, he would have been dead. The more rhino they kill, the higher the price they can demand for the horn….tragic hey?
