  • Blooming Light — (Hive 3) by Johanne Brunet

Finally, the last one in the series! There will be no more, I promise! ;-) This is another blue version of Hive, and Blooming Light — Hive 2 , two recent photos that I made as part of a series showing the television screen seen through various objects used in the living room. This one is a macro shot of a bundle of drinking straws, aimed at the TV. The actual straws measure less than 5mm in diameter. Once again, the screen was showing something blue, but the aperture was wider and the shutter length longer, which made for a brighter image, showing all the individual straws with their actual colours. Focal length 22mm / ISO-100 / Aperture f/4 / Shutter 1/2 sec. / Shot in manual mode / White balance set to tungsten Nikon D60 / AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G VR / Close-up filters: CU+1, CU+2 and CU+3 / / / Featured in the group Domestic Art – Home Is Where the Art Is on January 1st, 2009 /

  • To Know You by lucin

This is a candid still life. :) I quickly snapped this view of someone’s basement kitchen in Hampstead, England while walking it’s sidewalks. I felt as intrusive as if I had snapped a candid of the resident. For good reason, I believe. So much of the person who cooks and eats here is revealed, and, thus, a bit of the culture of the English. Few of us Americans have toasts racks, eh? Must have to do with the Revolution.

About This Group

This group is designed to feature domestic art – that is to say objects (not people or pets) commonly found in the home and/or relating to the home, but portrayed in a not-so-common way.

As long as the subject of the image is an inanimate object found in your home (and the quality is good), we’ll be happy to add it to our image gallery. Please remember to only submit your VERY BEST!

We hold a monthly avatar contest (winner’s image becomes the group avatar for that month and they get added to the elite list of Featured Members). We also hold several group voting contests of various themes and display 12 new featured works per week in order to assist our members in gaining good exposure to the very best images submitted here.

What Our Members Think Of The Group…

LEFTHANDPRINTS: I also want to add what a great group this is to belong to. We can’t always get away to photograph the unusual or the exotic so it’s great to know that ones’ own surroundings can be the basis for creativity and to have a group where those efforts can be appreciated. I’ve certainly seen some amazing images composed with the common everyday item as the subject matter and suddenly the things I’ve taken for granted around home have taken on a brand new perspective. We look forward to continued enjoyment and participation in this group in the future. Thank you…
