Graphite on illustration board. My Christmas greeting, 2002. The infant is drawn from a reference photo I took of my son’s first Christmas, 6 weeks. He’s now 21 years old. :) Inspired by the Christmas song of the same title, written by Chris Rice. The grapes and wheat are symbolic of the Eucharist, and the holly head wreath symbolic of the crown of thorns and crucifixion. I made this image for our parish church to use for printed Christmas materials. The Colors of Santa by Julie Marks
When the narrative is cut off, I place it in the writing section. / I enjoy building villages for Christmas that include buildings, figures, / dolls and my die cast car collection. I have only uploaded one photo / among many of the village, Snowfield. The story of this provincial and quiet town became an Internet soap opera. Many events and new residents moved into this once harmonious and peaceful town. Many shocking events occurred over the past two years including that Santa Claus was an imposter compelling Mrs. Claus to send her friend Florence to Snowfield to let Mrs. Claus know about her husband’s disloyal activities. The residents were stunned to find out what Santa really does when he goes down the chimney with gifts and reports from wives that were reminiscent of the television show, “desperate housewives.” Most of the events can be seen on another website, artwanted.com/masterofthemaze in the category villages. I plan to upload some of the most startling news to redbubble. The size difference of the characters are explained in the plot. Santa Claus does not represent a secular figure. I believed revealing the real identity of Santa Claus was my first priority. After the election of Barak Obama as President of the United States, acceptance that Santa Claus is Black could not have come at a better time. Research shows that black school children are happier and more comfortable when a black Santa comes to their school demonstrating that Santa comes in all colors. Since Barak Obama was elected President of the United States with his lovely wife Michelle and two children, we hope the color of one’s skin that has provoked hostile racism, prejudice and hate crimes will become dark memories of the past. It was first page news in the Snowfield T imes that Santa is Black. Reports of Latin and Asian Santas have also emerged. Santa is not the stereotypical old bearded man that rewards all children with expensive gifts. The new values our modern day Santa models for our nation will be encouraging and much less disappointing for poor families who can not provide what their children expect to find under their Christmas tree. Saint Nicholas would never support false promises, illusions and heartbreak for millions of children each year increasing the credit card debt of their struggling parents. President elect Obama was delighted to hear the news that black Santa Claus was accepted in Snowfield supporting his new economic plan that encourages hope in the face of a global crisis, especially the alarming events in the Middle East. I hope we follow Santa’s lead that represents a higher moral standard for our children and ourselves. It is not surprising that the news of a black Santa was revealed after the historical election of a black President of the United States. I will keep you updated on the reaction to this phenomenal news story. I hope the redbubble community is pleased and can appreciate the changes in the moral fabric of our country. I have submitted this one for the Happy 2009 Challenge in Our K9 Friend group. This was taken Saturday night, January 3, 2009 as me, hubby, and my oldest son sat around a campfire in our backyard. No, hubby and I do not drink, my oldest son does on occasion. This is my son’s chair and Champ got in it when he wasn’t looking. He had his eye on the campfire. I couldn’t resist taking this, it was totally dark, only lit up by the light of the campfire. We are going to cook out on the campfire this weekend, oh what fun. There is nothing like the smell of a campfire! Best viewed larger
