  • Art Nouveau - Pattern VI by Martilena

    Fractal Explorer + PaintShopPro

  • Design by Lisa Hewitt

I downloaded paint.net and took a picture of a design in my home. This design came out and I think it is cool!

  • Venus by ElegantSavage

This is another Art Nouveau translation of the subject of the Goddess Venus. I think she’d lend herself well to this decadent French styling, so I attempted it myself & was quite pleased with the result. I really enjoyed doing this piece of poster-style art as it was fun, colourful & sensual. I always enjoy tipping my hat to my heroes…& it’s always good to embrace your research thoroughly by enjoying the artists favourite tipple – absinthe!...because you can can can :) Kate :)

  • Lonely Traveller by windycorner

I took this photo while wandering through Cordoba, Spain, feeling very lonely and homesick… Taken with an old-fashioned film SLR.

  • Horta Windows by Alison Cornford-Matheson

This is a detail of the windows of the Horta designed Hôtel van Eetvelde, featured in the previous post.

  • Pomegranates by Deborah Holman

This image has been created using coloured pencils as a study for a larger painting. / I have been commissioned to do quite a large acrylic on canvas and have taken the inspiration from an art nouveau fireplace in the room where it is to hang. / I would appreciate your comments

  • Mother Nature by Linda Callaghan

This is a drawing I did on sketching paper about a year ago, and I found it yesterday and thought I would add some paint to it. Was just a doodle I did one night while relaxing. Different from my usual. I remember drawing it at the time and thinking of mother nature and that we are so connected to the earth around us and this is what emerged…so just sharing it with you.

  • Brasserie parisienne by bubblehex08

This is one of the famous restaurants of Paris, called “brasseries”. The name of this one is “Grand Café des Capucines” named after the avenue where it is situated, the “Boulevard des Capucines”. / It’s a masterpiece of the style called “Art Nouveau”. BTW, the food is very good, too!

  • Restraint by Pete Katsiaounis

First of a set of two. A bit of a nod to Aubrey Beardsley thrown in. The curtain acts a link between the two images but is used differently by the characters. In ‘Restraint’ it is used as a form of security and protection and in ‘Abandon’ used to reveal and invite.

  • Spring Jejun by Arletta

A hybrid between oils and digital play

  • Arumed by KazM

This work is inspired by arum lilies. / I see these lillies as a representation of purity. / I loaded this onto RB first as I consider it to be the best I have done so far. The fluidity of the lines and the colouration worked out so well. Others on RB seem to like it too. / I would like to thank the Works on Paper Group for Featuring it. It is done with caligraphy and metallic brushpens on paper (110gsm Acid free Cartridge Paper). I use these brushpens as they allow free flowing strokes. They are like preloaded paintbrushes unfortunately they are no longer made in the gold and silver I have used here. For a person as messy as me they are a great solution. The different effects occur as the brushes work differently when they are fully loaded or running out or when they interact with the texture of the paper. I love flowers and they are often the inspiration for my work. The original hangs in my hallway and is not currently for sale.

  • Hommage to a great architect by bubblehex08

    Hundertwasser House in Vienna

  • Violette by Jayne Logan

  • Carnivaled Flower (a Pastel Bouquet) by KazM

This is one of my few multi-coloured pastel pieces. It has a black texta outline with oily metallic pastels for the colouring. It was an experiment in combining very different media. Done on 110gsm cartridge paper. A bouquet that will never fade away / that could wish a happy day / steal a heart away / or say G’day

  • Dragonfly KISS Mandala by fullcirclemandalas

Shimmering irridescent dragonflies hover over rich red Waratahs. This is a dreaming mandala – specifically for meditation and contemplation. Its very simplicity is its power - if only we could remember that! We can circle our viewpoint and change direction at will. Never stuck, never immobile – no problem is too great if we simply shift our perspective.

About This Group

Welcome to the Art Nouveau Group.

Art Nouveau is an international style of art, architecture and design which is characterised by it’s highly-stylised, flowing, curvilinear designs often incorporating floral and other plant-inspired motifs

Some of the artists, architects, designers and artisans who worked in the Art Nouveau period include Aubrey Beardsley, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Renee Lalique, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Alphonse Mucha, Gustav Klimt, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Antoni Gaudi and Frank Lloyd Wright.

Art Nouveau as a period spanned the 1880s to 1914 and is closely aligned with the Arts and Crafts Movement, with many artists working across the two styles. The term Art Nouveau (New Art) was first used when describing the work of a group of Belgian artists (Les Art Nouveau)
.
